Compute Optimized (C5)
- What it is
- High ratio of vCPU to memory; fastest processors per dollar of CPU.
- For workloads that are CPU-bound and run CPU hot continuously.
- Use cases
- Batch processing, high-performance computing (HPC), scientific modeling.
- Media transcoding, ad serving, dedicated gaming servers.
- High-throughput web servers and application front ends.
- Not to be confused with
- General Purpose (T3) — burstable and balanced; throttles under sustained load once credits drain.
- Accelerated Computing (F1) — offloads to hardware accelerators; compute optimized is CPU only.
