Amazon AppStream 2.0
- What it is
- Fully managed application streaming. Runs a desktop application in AWS and streams only its interface to a user’s browser.
- Why
- Deliver a heavy or licensed application (CAD, engineering, analytics software) to any device, including thin clients and Chromebooks, with no install.
- The application and its data never leave AWS.
- Sessions are typically non-persistent — a fresh instance each time, unless you attach a home folder.
- Not to be confused with
- Amazon WorkSpaces — a full, persistent desktop the user owns. AppStream streams individual applications, usually ephemeral.
- Exam signal
- “Stream a single application to users’ browsers” → AppStream 2.0. “Give users a full cloud desktop” → WorkSpaces.
