- The cheapest storage in AWS. The bottom of the Amazon S3 Glacier family — the digital equivalent of off-site tape.

- 11 nines durability, multi-AZ. Minimum billable storage duration 180 days.
- Retrieval: Standard 12 hours, Bulk up to 48 hours.
- When to use it
- Regulatory retention of 7–10 years: financial records, healthcare data, legal holds — data kept because it must be, not because it will be read.
- The replacement story for physical tape libraries, often fed by Tape Gateway.
