FSx File Gateway
- What it is
- The AWS Storage Gateway mode giving on-premises users low-latency SMB access to Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, with a local cache.
- Why it exists
- Windows file shares moved to the cloud feel slow over a WAN. The local cache keeps hot files on site while FSx stays the source of truth.
- Preserves the Windows story end to end: Active Directory identities, NTFS ACLs, DFS namespaces, shadow copies.
- Not to be confused with
- S3 File Gateway — files become Amazon S3 objects, without full Windows file-system semantics.
- Exam signal
- “On-premises Windows users”, “SMB”, “cached access to a cloud Windows file share” → FSx File Gateway.
