AWS Wavelength
- What it is
- AWS compute and storage embedded inside telecom providers’ 5G networks.
- Traffic from a mobile device reaches the application without leaving the carrier network.
- Why
- Ultra-low latency to mobile users: AR/VR, connected vehicles, smart factories, live mobile gaming, real-time ML inference at the edge.
- Not to be confused with
- AWS Local Zones — metro-area latency over ordinary internet; Wavelength is specifically 5G carrier networks.
- AWS Outposts — your premises, your building.
- Amazon CloudFront — caches static and dynamic content at edge locations; Wavelength runs your application code.
