AWS Budgets
- What it is
- Set custom cost and usage thresholds and get alerted when you approach or exceed them.
- Alerts fire on forecasted spend too, so you hear about it before the money is gone.
- Budget types
- Cost budget — a dollar limit. Usage budget — hours, GB, requests.
- Reservation budget — RI/Savings Plans utilization and coverage targets.
- Budget Actions
- Automatically apply an IAM or Service Control Policy, or stop EC2/RDS instances, when a threshold is breached.
- Not to be confused with
- AWS Cost Explorer — retrospective analysis. Budgets is forward-looking alerting and enforcement.
